Who can Elidel 1% cream
Elidel 1% cream is indicated for short-term (acute phase) of treatment or long-term treatment of signs and symptoms of atopic dermatitis (eczema) in infants (3 – 23 months), children (2 -11 years), adolescents (12 – 17 years) and adults.
How to use Elidel 1% cream
Dosing and Administration
Elidel 1% cream applied thinly to the affected skin twice daily and lightly rubbed into the skin completely. Elidel 1% cream can be used on all skin areas, including the head and face. With long-term therapy of atopic dermatitis (eczema) treatment Elidel 1% cream should be started at the first signs and symptoms of atopic dermatitis, to prevent the spread and subsequent exacerbation of the disease.
Elidel 1% cream should be applied twice a day until the disappearance of signs and symptoms of the disease. In the event of termination of therapy, with the repetition of signs and symptoms, treatment should be resumed to prevent relapse.
Immediately after applying the Elidel 1% cream should be applied emollients. However, after a bath / shower emollients should be applied before using Elidel 1% cream.
Due to the low level of systemic absorption, there is no limit whatsoever to the total daily dose, which is used or about the size of the affected body part, or duration of treatment. Infants (3 – 23 months), children (2 – 11 years) and adolescents (12 – 17 years), we recommend the same dose as adults.
Patients aged 65 years and older, cases of atopic dermatitis (eczema) are rare. Clinical studies of Elidel 1% cream did not include sufficient numbers of patients in this age group to determine whether their different reactions to the drug on the response of younger patients.
Features of Elidel 1% cream
Elidel 1% cream should not be applied to the areas affected by acute viral skin infections.
In the presence of dermatological bacterial or fungal infection should use appropriate antimicrobial agents. If the infectious process is not reduced, the use of Elidel 1% cream should be discontinued until such time until the infection is controlled accordingly. Application of Elidel 1% cream may cause minor and transient reactions at the site of application, such as a feeling of warmth and / or burning. Patients should tell your doctor if the reaction at the site of application of the drug is too pronounced.
The cream can be applied to mucous membranes. In case of accidental contact with the drug on the mucous membranes and eyes, immediately rinse them with water.
Pregnancy
Sufficient data concerning the application of Elidel cream 1% in pregnant women do not. Animal studies using skin application showed no direct or indirect influence of the drug on pregnancy, fetal development, fetal development, childbirth, or postnatal development.
Caution must be exercised in the appointment of Elidel 1% cream for pregnant women. However, given the minimal degree of absorption of pimecrolimus after topical application of Elidel 1% cream, the potential risk for humans is considered negligible.
Lactation
Is not known whether pimecrolimus in mother’s milk after topical application. Because many drugs get into breast milk, caution should be exercised in the application of Elidel 1% cream in mothers who breastfeed. However, given the minimal degree of absorption of pimecrolimus after topical application of Elidel 1% cream, a possible risk to humans is negligible. Mothers who are breastfeeding should not apply Elidel cream 1% on the chest.
Side effects of Elidel 1% cream
• a burning sensation at the application site;
• reactions at the application site (irritation, itching or reddening of the skin)
• skin infections (folliculitis);
• skin rash, deterioration
• Herpes Simplex (Herpes simplex),
• herpetic dermatitis (eczema herpetic)
• molluscum contagiosum,
• Violations of the application site, such as: rash, pain, paresthesia, skin peeling, dryness, swelling, skin warts, boils.
Who is contraindicated Elidel 1% cream
Hypersensitivity to pimecrolimus or any other ingredients.
Infants up to 3 months.
Interaction Elidel 1% cream
Potential interactions between Elidel 1% cream and other drugs has not been studied. Because Elidel cream 1% has a minimal degree of absorption, its interaction with drugs that are assigned systematically, hardly occurs. Based on the pharmacodynamic properties of Elidel 1% cream and a minimal degree of absorption of pimecrolimus, no influence on the reaction of vaccination is not expected. Application of Elidel 1% cream in the place of vaccination, while local reaction is preserved, not studied and therefore not recommended.
Elidel 1% cream Overdose
Reported cases of overdose of Elidel 1% cream is not.
